Where did Early Christian Art begin?

Early Christian Art began in Roman Empire territories, particularly in Rome. This art form developed as Christianity began to emerge and establish itself during the late Roman Empire, around the 2nd to 4th centuries CE. While Byzantium, later known as Constantinople and then Istanbul, became an important center for Christian art and architecture after the establishment of the Byzantine Empire, the origins and foundational developments of Early Christian Art are closely tied to Rome. Therefore, while Byzantium played a significant role in the evolution of Christian art, it is in Rome where Early Christian Art initially began to flourish, influenced by the cultural and artistic traditions of the Roman world.
